Description
Mahakala, meaning “Great Black One” or “Lord of Time,” is a significant, fierce protector deity in Hinduism (as a manifestation of Shiva) and especially Tibetan Buddhism, where he’s a wrathful emanation of Avalokiteshvara, guarding Buddhist teachings. He symbolizes time, destruction, ultimate reality, and powerful, compassionate transformation, appearing in many forms (like six-armed or white) and depicted with skull crowns, tiger skins, and weapons to overcome obstacles and protect practitioners from negativity, representing the ultimate truth beyond form.
